The Consent Mode audit
A Consent Mode v2 audit that records what every tag does in every consent state.
A technical audit of your consent signals, CMP timing and tag behavior across accept, reject and no choice. We measure what your tags actually do in each state, not what the CMP dashboard claims. $900 flat, 5 business days from access to delivery. The top 10 issues are fixed and validated before delivery.
5-day turnaround · top 10 issues fixed, not listed · 5+ gaps found or it's free
Why your numbers are low
Most accounts report 60 to 80 of every 100 real conversions.
The gap isn't one big break. It's four small leaks stacking up quietly, and the ad platforms optimize on whatever incomplete signal survives.
LEAK 01
Ad blockers & browsers
Client-side pixels blocked or throttled before they ever fire. Safari and Firefox cap cookies to days.
LEAK 02
iOS & signal loss
App Tracking Transparency and privacy features strip the identifiers Meta and Google match on.
LEAK 03
Consent banners
A misconfigured CMP or missing Consent Mode v2 silently drops every visitor who clicks reject.
LEAK 04
Broken tags
Duplicate purchases, dead triggers, stale dataLayer variables, redirects that strip UTMs. It accumulates.
What gets torn down
Four systems, one pass, every gap logged.
This is the stack the audit walks through, end to end, on any platform: Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento, Webflow, WordPress or custom.
System 01 · GA4
Property & events
- Property, stream and data settings against current best practice
- Event and key-event design, counting method, dedupe
- Ecommerce and funnel tracking accuracy, item-level data
- Attribution settings, channel grouping, unwanted referrals
System 02 · Google Tag Manager
Container health
- Every tag, trigger and variable mapped and tested live
- Duplicate and dead weight removed, naming rationalized
- dataLayer integrity across templates and checkout
- Cross-domain, iframe and SPA tracking behavior
System 03 · Ad platform signals
Google Ads & Meta
- Conversion actions vs GA4 vs backend truth, side by side
- Meta pixel + Conversions API dedupe and event match quality
- Enhanced conversions and offline import readiness
- Server-side tagging setup reviewed, or scoped if absent
System 04 · Consent & compliance
Consent Mode v2 & CMP
- Consent Mode v2 signals actually reaching Google tags
- CMP behavior on accept, reject and no-choice states
- What data is recoverable through modeled conversions
- Region handling and obvious compliance red flags
In depth
What the audit inspects, tests and hands back
The engagement is scoped to your consent implementation and run against live page loads. Every finding is recorded with the state it appears in and whether a fix or modeling is the answer.
01
What is inspected
We take an inventory before anything is tested: the CMP and how its categories map to analytics_storage, ad_storage, ad_user_data and ad_personalization; where the default consent call is declared and what it declares; where the update call runs; every tag and trigger in the container that is meant to be gated; and any region override that sets one market and leaves the rest on a permissive default. The inventory is the thing the test results are checked against.
02
What is tested across accept, reject and no choice
Each state is reproduced on live page loads, including the visitor who closes the banner without answering and the returning visitor whose stored choice is replayed. For each state we record which tags fired, in what order relative to the consent calls, whether cookieless pings were sent, which parameters were redacted, and whether anything reached a vendor that should not have. Loads are run with the network throttled, so a race between the CMP and the first measurement tag shows up instead of hiding behind a fast connection.
03
What is fixed in the GTM workspace
Fixes are built in a separate GTM workspace, not in your live container. That work covers signal mapping corrections, moving the default consent call ahead of the first measurement tag, wiring ungated tags to the consent state, and correcting region overrides. The top 10 findings by severity are built and validated inside the five days. Everything else is written up as a prioritized backlog with the change described. Nothing is published unless you grant publish access and approve it.
04
What the report hands back
Every gap is logged with severity, the consent state it appears in, and what it costs in data. Each finding states whether modeling covers it or an implementation fix is required, and modeling is credited only where your own accept, reject and no choice rates and your own volumes meet the conditions for it. Nothing is logged as recoverable without the traffic to support it. You also get before and after proof for the fixes, a recorded walkthrough, and two weeks of follow-up questions.

The guarantee
Fewer than 5 fixable gaps found? The audit is free.

Fit
Built for accounts where the numbers steer real money.
Right fit
- You're spending on Google or Meta and decisions ride on reported conversions
- Ecommerce or lead gen with meaningful traffic
- Platform numbers, GA4 and your backend all disagree
- Agencies welcome: white-label audits for your clients, your brand on the report
Not yet
- Pre-launch, or too little traffic for the data to matter yet
- You need a site or app built first
- You want someone to run the ads themselves. We fix what the ads learn from
Who does the work
"The person auditing your setup is the person who has spent ten years building them. No juniors, no handoffs."
Missing Conversions is run by Syed Anns, after a decade of GA4, Google Tag Manager and Conversions API implementations for businesses and the agencies that serve them. This audit is that decade, productized: a fixed scope, a fixed price and a report you can act on the same day.

Questions
Asked before booking.
Consent Mode is set up in my CMP but conversions still dropped. Why?
Usually one of three things, and they are separated by testing rather than by reading the CMP dashboard. Ordering: the default consent call lands after the first measurement tag, so that tag runs in an undefined state and the platform discards or misclassifies those hits. Signal mapping: the CMP handles only analytics_storage and ad_storage. If a denied default was declared for the two v2 signals and no update ever lifts them, you have a permanent denial nobody chose, and the ad features that depend on those signals stop. If the two are never sent at all, the tag runs on its own default rather than on the visitor's answer, so the state the tag is in is not the state the banner recorded. Gating: tags that were never wired to consent keep firing regardless. All three look the same in a reporting dashboard. The audit reproduces each state and reports which one you have.
Is this legal or compliance advice?
No. This is measurement work, not legal advice. The audit describes what your tags do in each consent state, where signals are missing or contradictory, and what that costs you in data. It does not tell you which consent categories your business is required to collect, whether your banner design meets any regulator's standard, or how your privacy policy should read. Those are questions for your legal counsel. Where we find behavior that looks like a risk, such as tags firing after a rejection, we flag it as a finding for your counsel to assess.
How much traffic do I lose to consent, realistically?
It depends entirely on your traffic mix, your banner and your markets, so any consent loss rate quoted at you before anyone has looked at your data is guesswork. What is measurable is your own split. The audit reports your actual accept, reject and no choice rates from live data, then shows what each state currently produces in GA4 and in your ad platforms. That gives you a real figure for your site rather than an industry average. It also separates the part of the apparent consent loss that is genuinely consent from the part that is an implementation fault, because the second part is recoverable without asking a single additional visitor to accept.
What access do you need, and how long does granting it take?
Viewer or Analyst on GA4, read access to the GTM container, and read-only on Google Ads and Meta Events Manager. You get an exact checklist after booking; most teams grant everything in about 10 minutes. Publish access to GTM is only needed if you want us to deploy the fixes, and you can keep that gated behind your own approval.
Will anything break while you work?
No. All fixes are built in a separate GTM workspace, tested against live behavior, and validated before publishing. Nothing goes live without your explicit sign-off, and every change is documented so it can be rolled back in minutes.
Which platforms and stacks do you cover?
Any site running GA4 and Google Tag Manager: Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento, Webflow, WordPress and custom builds, for both ecommerce and lead generation. Server-side GTM and Meta Conversions API setups are part of the review, and if you don't have them yet the report scopes exactly what they would recover.
What if my tracking turns out to be fine?
Then the guarantee applies: fewer than five fixable gaps and the audit costs nothing. You keep the report either way, which is useful proof for your team, your agency or your investors that the numbers hold.
I run an agency. Can you do this for our clients?
Yes, and quietly. White-label audits with your brand on the report and our delivery underneath, at partner pricing for volume. Mention it on the call and we'll walk through how the handoff works.
What happens after the five days?
The report ends with a prioritized backlog. Take it to your own developers, have us quote it as a fixed project with your $900 credited in full, or put the account on a monthly maintenance plan so tracking stays verified release after release. No obligation on any path.
