The Meta Conversions API audit
A Meta Conversions API audit that finds where your pixel and your server events stop agreeing.
A fixed-price teardown of the browser pixel, the Conversions API, deduplication and the customer parameters your events carry. Every gap is logged with severity and what it costs you in delivery and reporting. $900 flat, 5 business days from access to delivery. The top 10 issues are fixed and validated before you get the report.

Why your numbers are low
Most accounts report 60 to 80 of every 100 real conversions.
The gap isn't one big break. It's four small leaks stacking up quietly, and the ad platforms optimize on whatever incomplete signal survives.
LEAK 01
Ad blockers & browsers
Client-side pixels blocked or throttled before they ever fire. Safari and Firefox cap cookies to days.
LEAK 02
iOS & signal loss
App Tracking Transparency and privacy features strip the identifiers Meta and Google match on.
LEAK 03
Consent banners
A misconfigured CMP or missing Consent Mode v2 silently drops every visitor who clicks reject.
LEAK 04
Broken tags
Duplicate purchases, dead triggers, stale dataLayer variables, redirects that strip UTMs. It accumulates.
What gets torn down
Four systems, one pass, every gap logged.
This is the stack the audit walks through, end to end, on any platform: Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento, Webflow, WordPress or custom.
System 01 · GA4
Property & events
- Property, stream and data settings against current best practice
- Event and key-event design, counting method, dedupe
- Ecommerce and funnel tracking accuracy, item-level data
- Attribution settings, channel grouping, unwanted referrals
System 02 · Google Tag Manager
Container health
- Every tag, trigger and variable mapped and tested live
- Duplicate and dead weight removed, naming rationalized
- dataLayer integrity across templates and checkout
- Cross-domain, iframe and SPA tracking behavior
System 03 · Ad platform signals
Google Ads & Meta
- Conversion actions vs GA4 vs backend truth, side by side
- Meta pixel + Conversions API dedupe and event match quality
- Enhanced conversions and offline import readiness
- Server-side tagging setup reviewed, or scoped if absent
System 04 · Consent & compliance
Consent Mode v2 & CMP
- Consent Mode v2 signals actually reaching Google tags
- CMP behavior on accept, reject and no-choice states
- What data is recoverable through modeled conversions
- Region handling and obvious compliance red flags
In depth
What the audit inspects across the pixel, the Conversions API and dedup
Every item below is tested against live events in your own account rather than read off a settings screen. Findings are logged with severity, the surface they sit on, and what they cost in delivery and reporting.
01
Deduplication integrity
Browser and server events are matched on the same event_name plus a shared event_id, and the pair has to arrive inside Meta's dedup window. We check that the event_id is generated once per user action and passed to both paths, not regenerated server side, and we look for the two failure modes that follow: purchases counted twice when ids diverge, and purchases silently dropped when a server event carries an id that collides with an unrelated browser event.
02
Customer parameters and hashing
Match quality is decided by which customer parameters reach the payload and whether they were normalized before they were hashed. We read the outgoing user_data object on live events and compare it against what your site already holds at the point of conversion: email, phone, external_id, and the Meta identifiers fbc and fbp, where fbc carries the ad click and fbp is the browser cookie the pixel writes. Every parameter that exists in your data layer and never arrives is logged with the event, the surface it is missing from, and the effect on delivery and reporting.
03
Pixel, Conversions API and gateway
The browser pixel runs in the visitor's page and is exposed to blockers, ITP cookie limits and consent. The Conversions API sends events from your server or a server container, which takes blockers and browser cookie limits out of the path, but it only knows what you give it. Consent is the exception: the visitor's refusal has to be honored on the server as well, so the Conversions API is not a route around it. Meta's Conversions API Gateway is a prebuilt relay you deploy on cloud infrastructure, which mirrors pixel traffic server side with less engineering work and less control over payload enrichment than a server container you build yourself. We document which paths you run today, where they overlap, and where a supposedly server side event is in fact still browser dependent.
04
Event sources feeding the dataset
One dataset is often written to by more than one sender: your own container, a platform sales channel integration, a partner app, a staging environment, and test events left running. We list every source writing into the dataset, match each one to the events it sends, and flag the senders covering an action you already cover elsewhere. Each duplicate is recorded as a finding with the event and the source attached, not as an unexplained lift in the totals.

The guarantee
Fewer than 5 fixable gaps found? The audit is free.
If your tracking is genuinely clean, you don't pay, and you keep the report as proof your numbers hold. If it isn't, you'll know exactly what it's costing you and the worst of it will already be fixed.
Fit
Built for accounts where the numbers steer real money.
Right fit
- You're spending on Google or Meta and decisions ride on reported conversions
- Ecommerce or lead gen with meaningful traffic
- Platform numbers, GA4 and your backend all disagree
- Agencies welcome: white-label audits for your clients, your brand on the report
Not yet
- Pre-launch, or too little traffic for the data to matter yet
- You need a site or app built first
- You want someone to run the ads themselves. We fix what the ads learn from
Who does the work
"The person auditing your setup is the person who has spent ten years building them. No juniors, no handoffs."
Missing Conversions is run by Syed Anns, after a decade of GA4, Google Tag Manager and Conversions API implementations for businesses and the agencies that serve them. This audit is that decade, productized: a fixed scope, a fixed price and a report you can act on the same day.

Questions
Asked before booking.
Why does Meta report more purchases than my backend?
Three causes account for most of the gap. Deduplication is failing, so the same purchase arrives twice under two different event_id values and is counted twice. Meta attributes on a click or view window and credits a conversion to the ad even when the order was placed days later or by a different person on a shared device, which your backend records under a single order date. Or a test event source, a staging environment or a duplicate pixel on the page is firing into the same dataset. The audit separates these by comparing raw event counts, deduplicated counts and your order records over the same window.
Does a low event match quality score mean my tracking is broken?
Not on its own. A low score means fewer usable identifiers are arriving with each event, and that can be a fault or it can be the honest ceiling for the data you hold. The audit does not stop at the score. It reports which parameters arrive on which events, which ones your site already has at the point of conversion and never sends, and which ones arrive malformed. Each of those is a finding with a fix attached. The score is only how Meta summarizes them.
Can you audit Meta tracking without publishing changes to my container?
Yes. Read only access to Meta Events Manager and the GTM container is enough to complete the full audit. Fixes are built and validated in a separate GTM workspace that does not touch your live container. Nothing is published unless you grant publish access and approve the changes. If you would rather your own developer apply the fixes, the report and the recorded walkthrough contain everything needed to do that.
What access do you need, and how long does granting it take?
Viewer or Analyst on GA4, read access to the GTM container, and read-only on Google Ads and Meta Events Manager. You get an exact checklist after booking; most teams grant everything in about 10 minutes. Publish access to GTM is only needed if you want us to deploy the fixes, and you can keep that gated behind your own approval.
Will anything break while you work?
No. All fixes are built in a separate GTM workspace, tested against live behavior, and validated before publishing. Nothing goes live without your explicit sign-off, and every change is documented so it can be rolled back in minutes.
Which platforms and stacks do you cover?
Any site running GA4 and Google Tag Manager: Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento, Webflow, WordPress and custom builds, for both ecommerce and lead generation. Server-side GTM and Meta Conversions API setups are part of the review, and if you don't have them yet the report scopes exactly what they would recover.
What if my tracking turns out to be fine?
Then the guarantee applies: fewer than five fixable gaps and the audit costs nothing. You keep the report either way, which is useful proof for your team, your agency or your investors that the numbers hold.
I run an agency. Can you do this for our clients?
Yes, and quietly. White-label audits with your brand on the report and our delivery underneath, at partner pricing for volume. Mention it on the call and we'll walk through how the handoff works.
What happens after the five days?
The report ends with a prioritized backlog. Take it to your own developers, have us quote it as a fixed project with your $900 credited in full, or put the account on a monthly maintenance plan so tracking stays verified release after release. No obligation on any path.
